After the demolition of over 19 buildings at Trade Fair Plaza, one user wrote: “Our Igbo make Lagos this standard it is today, Yorubas are jealous of how hardworking the visitors are while their own indigenes are Agbero.” While it may sound like praise, this comment is divisive and fuels unnecessary ethnic tension. Lagos is a multi-ethnic city built by the contributions of many groups, not one tribe alone. Labeling Yorubas negatively as “Agbero” not only disrespects them but also deepens tribal conflict. True progress comes from unity, collaboration, and addressing systemic issues, not from pitting tribes against each other.
