This is an insensitive and misleading statement. Wishing Nigeria had never gained independence dismisses the sacrifices of those who fought for freedom and undermines the value of sovereignty. Every nation has its struggles, but colonial rule was not a golden era — it was marked by exploitation, suppression, and inequality. Independence gave Nigerians the right to self-determination, even if governance challenges remain. Instead of romanticizing colonialism, the focus should be on demanding accountability from leaders and pushing for structural reforms that will make independence truly meaningful.
