The tragic killing of a 29-year-old Arise TV reporter and lawyer in her Katampe home sparked grief across the nation. Yet, one user controversially remarked, “Actually, the worst murder cases happens at these ‘big man’ places.” Such a comment is insensitive, as it shifts focus from the victim’s life and the crime itself to an unfair generalization about affluent neighborhoods. Violence can happen anywhere, whether in wealthy areas or struggling communities. Reducing a brutal loss of life to a stereotype about “big man” locations diminishes the seriousness of the crime and distracts from calls for real justice and security.
