Following the alleged statement by Abia State Governor Alex Otti criticizing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over the demolition of Igbo-owned properties at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex, tribal debates flooded the comments. Among them, one Igbo man wrote, “I practically don’t agree with the word 1 Nigeria. If Ibos leave Lagos, Lagos will collapse.” While his frustration may stem from perceived ethnic marginalization, such statements are still divisive. They imply that one tribe alone sustains an entire state, ignoring the diverse contributions of others. Comments like this only deepen disunity and shift attention away from the real issue — fair governance and protection of citizens’ rights, regardless of tribe.
