After the death of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, a Nigerian Army officer allegedly set ablaze by his wife during a domestic dispute in Akwa Ibom, one insensitive comment appeared online that read, “E go marry small girl abi 😂.” This statement mocked the victim and trivialized his death, turning a tragic event into a joke about age differences in marriage. Such a comment is heartless and deeply disrespectful. Regardless of who he married or their age gap, no one deserves to die violently. Making fun of a man’s death only shows how social media has numbed empathy and normalized cruelty.
