After the tragic death of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, a Nigerian Army officer allegedly set ablaze by his wife during a domestic dispute in Akwa Ibom, one cruel comment simply read, “Weak man.” This insensitive remark mocked the victim’s inability to survive or defend himself, completely ignoring the brutality of the act. Calling him “weak” for falling victim to violence dehumanizes his suffering and disrespects his service as a soldier. Strength has nothing to do with being caught off guard or betrayed by a loved one. Such comments expose the alarming lack of empathy and understanding surrounding domestic violence cases.
