Amidst the tension caused by the Bokku Mart controversy, a user wrote, “Apart from Lagos, an independent colony, Yorubaland is a dead zone.” This statement is insulting and promotes tribal hatred. Calling an entire region “a dead zone” disregards the millions of hardworking people and the cultural and economic value the Yoruba community contributes to Nigeria.
Such comments only deepen division and breed resentment among tribes. Lagos being a major city does not make other Yoruba states irrelevant or lifeless. Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity, and no tribe or region should be demeaned to elevate another. Promoting unity, respect, and fairness is the only way forward for peace and national progress.
