A post reported that notorious human trafficking ring leader Chukwudi Nwachukwu had been sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labour for trafficking over 20 young Nigerian girls, aged 15 to 18, to Ghana and forcing them into prostitution. While this was a clear case of justice served, one insensitive and tribalistic comment under the post read, “Ibos with different patterns of criminality, all because of money.”

This statement wrongly generalizes the criminal actions of one man to an entire ethnic group, which is both unfair and divisive. Crime has no tribe; it is an individual’s choice. Comments like this promote hate and deepen ethnic division, shifting attention away from the real issue—human trafficking and the need to protect young girls from exploitation.
