Following the news of Chukwudi Nwachukwu’s conviction for trafficking 20 Nigerian girls into Ghana for prostitution, one disturbing comment attempted to downplay the crime by stating, “But they’re hardworking people! Aren’t they?”
This statement is highly inappropriate and deeply troubling. There is nothing “hardworking” about human trafficking — it is a severe violation of human rights and dignity. Trying to equate criminal exploitation with hard work is not only morally wrong but also dangerous, as it normalizes evil and trivializes the suffering of victims. Hard work builds people and societies, but trafficking destroys lives. It’s crucial to draw a clear line between diligence and crime, and never glorify wickedness in the name of hustle.
