After the conviction of Chukwudi Nwachukwu for trafficking young Nigerian girls into Ghana for prostitution, one deeply insensitive comment attempted to justify the crime, stating, “Chale you people dey make rape go come again… ibi hook up wey one reduce rape so consider him giving him 5 years.”

This comment dangerously suggests that prostitution — or in this case, human trafficking — helps reduce rape, and therefore, the trafficker deserves leniency. Such reasoning is both immoral and ignorant. Human trafficking is not a “solution” to any social problem; it is a horrific abuse of power, exploitation, and violation of human rights. No justification can excuse the act of enslaving or selling others for profit. Society must never tolerate or normalize crime under the guise of prevention or convenience.
