A viral report showed a gun runner in Zamfara caught smuggling firearms and ammunition inside bags of dried fish — a shocking example of how weapons are concealed to fuel violence. In response, one user wrote: “Na to test run am for him leg first na. why is he still standing,” calling for the suspect to be shot in the leg as a “test.”

That comment is dangerous and unacceptable. Advocating vigilante shooting is incitement to violence and undermines the rule of law — the same law we need to dismantle arms networks and protect communities. The right response is arrest, evidence-gathering, independent prosecution, and stronger anti-smuggling measures. Citizens should document and report crimes, support lawful investigations, and demand that authorities prosecute offenders transparently — not celebrate or encourage extra-judicial harm.
