A video surfaced showing two Hausa traders being attacked in the East, with locals reportedly trying to stop them from doing business. The clip sparked anger and frustration online, but one response jumped straight to the extreme: “Let’s divide the country. We are both tired of ourselves!”

This kind of reaction doesn’t just oversimplify a complex issue — it deepens the divide. Turning an incident involving a few individuals into a justification for breaking up the entire country is dangerous. It ignores the millions of Nigerians who coexist peacefully, trade together, intermarry, and share communities every day.

Calling for division doesn’t solve injustice, discrimination, or poor conflict management. It only amplifies tribal tension and fuels the idea that coexistence is impossible. What we actually need is accountability and fairness — not a breakup fantasy born from anger.
