A comment under Nnamdi Kanu’s case read: “Nigeria can never be better, Give Us Biafra.”
You can hear the exhaustion in that sentence — the kind born from years of injustice, stalled progress, and a system that rarely feels fair. But desperation shouldn’t push us into believing that splitting the country is the only path left.
Calls for secession may feel emotionally satisfying in the moment, but they ignore the complexity and danger that comes with breaking a nation apart — instability, displacement, economic collapse, and violent backlash. We’ve seen this story in other countries, and it never ends neatly.
Wanting better is valid. Demanding justice is necessary. But declaring Nigeria hopeless shuts the door on solutions before we even try them. Change isn’t instant, but giving up guarantees nothing gets fixed.
