A man simply stated that Islam has been in Nigeria since the 11th century — a harmless historical fact. Yet someone responded with: “Doesn’t change anything, y’all are terrorist,” even attaching an image claiming “Islam is a terrorist organization.”
This isn’t just ignorance; it’s reckless and inflammatory. Reducing an entire religion to terrorism because of the actions of extremists is how hatred spreads and innocent people become targets. Millions of peaceful Muslims exist in Nigeria and across the world, yet comments like this paint them all as violent threats.
When people make sweeping, hateful generalizations, it doesn’t “expose” anything — it only deepens divides, fuels prejudice, and pushes communities further apart. We can condemn extremism without demonizing an entire faith.
Insecurity is bad enough already. We don’t need this kind of fire.
