After a US Congressman cited Nnamdi Kanu’s life sentence as proof of Nigeria’s failing judiciary, the reactions online went wild. One particularly sharp comment read: “Everyone saw that the country was judged, not Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Everyone saw that a member of the APC spoke, not a Judge.”
This sentiment came from how the video looked — the voice reading the judgment sounded more like a party spokesperson than a courtroom authority, and the camera never showed the judge. To many Nigerians already frustrated with selective justice, that was enough fuel to believe the process wasn’t transparent, fair, or independent.
But comments like this also widen distrust in institutions at a time the country desperately needs stability. Critique is valid, but conclusions drawn from unclear footage can deepen the cracks we’re struggling to repair.
