A viral threat video from criminals on Nigeria’s side of the X platform bragged about expanding kidnapping to soldiers and politicians. The debate escalated when a user commented: “After dem kidnap, kpai (kill) and post videos online. Serious standing ovation,” followed by laughing emojis.
This isn’t satire anymore—this is the normalization of terror. Mocking or celebrating kidnapping and murder—even out of political frustration—conditions society to see violence as theatrics rather than trauma. Soldiers, governors, and politicians are not punchlines or symbolic payback; amplifying harm against them ultimately strengthens criminals over citizens, erodes national security, and numbs public empathy.
Demand accountability, protest bad governance, drag the system—but never cheer those who kidnap, kill, and record it. The real red flag is a culture starting to laugh at national decay.
