A statement credited to popular cleric Prophet Odumeje praised a political figure for wanting freedom for Hausas, Yorubas, and Igbos. The message divided opinions, but one comment ignored the substance and took a swipe at an entire community: āThe only pastor with a working brain.ā
Thatās not praiseāitās collective insult packaged as compliment. Declaring every other pastor in Nigeria ābrain-deadā fuels unnecessary hostility, deepens public distrust in faith leaders, and normalizes tearing others down to uplift one person. Words like this influence young audiences to equate bold opinions with superiority and dialogue with disdain.
Not agreeing with pastors is fine. Suggesting they lack functioning brains? Thatās intellectual prejudice, emotional immaturity, and a glaring red flag.
Respectful critique builds reform. Mockery builds resentment.
