A post on X declared: “A man without a male child is a man without a child.” The statement was made using the image of socialite Ebuka Obi and his family, simply because he has two daughters.

The narrative was further reinforced when a woman added: “As sad as this sounds it’s actually true. So many things women won’t do for you as their parents.”

These comments are deeply problematic. They erase the value of daughters and reduce parenthood to gender, not love or responsibility. By portraying women as incapable of loyalty, care, or sacrifice for their parents, the statements rely on harmful stereotypes rather than reality. Many daughters are primary caregivers, financial supporters, and emotional anchors in their families.

Beyond sexism, such remarks publicly demean a family by turning a joyful reality into ridicule. Children are not defined by gender, and parental worth is not measured by having a son. These narratives only sustain inequality and disrespect.
