A post on X stated: “A man without a male child is a man without a child.” The statement was made using the image of socialite Ebuka Obi and his family, solely because he has two daughters.

This remark is deeply offensive and rooted in harmful patriarchal thinking. It erases the value of daughters and reduces children to their gender rather than their humanity. Such a view treats girls as lesser, disposable, or incomplete, reinforcing long-standing biases that have caused emotional harm to families and limited opportunities for women.

Beyond its sexism, the comment publicly disrespects a family by turning a personal and joyful reality into a tool for humiliation. Children—male or female—are children. Parenthood is defined by love, care, and responsibility, not chromosomes. Statements like this perpetuate inequality and should have no place in modern discourse
