A recent debate followed Evang Jane Emmanuel’s alleged statement discouraging men from marrying single mothers, claiming most seek support rather than a husband. Among the responses, one comment asserted that “weak men use them as a way out,” implying that only weak men date single mothers.

This claim is deeply flawed and insulting. It reduces men’s choices to weakness and portrays single mothers as burdens or shortcuts, rather than individuals worthy of genuine love. Relationships are built on compatibility, values, and mutual respect—not desperation or weakness.

Such comments reinforce harmful stereotypes against both single mothers and men, shaming personal decisions and dismissing emotional maturity. Choosing to love or commit to a single mother can reflect responsibility, empathy, and confidence—not weakness.

Reducing complex human relationships to mockery and labels contributes nothing meaningful to discourse. Healthy conversations require nuance, not blanket judgments that stigmatize entire groups of people.
