Another reaction to the alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu’s government sparked outrage for openly glorifying treason. Following reports that military officers were arrested for planning to overthrow the government, one user commented: “Great soldiers. Second attempt will be positive By the grace of God.”
The remark was widely condemned for praising the suspects and even invoking religion to wish success for a future coup. Critics described it as reckless and disturbing, noting that coups are not heroic acts but threats to lives, democracy, and national stability.
Observers warned that framing coup plotters as “great soldiers” normalizes anti-democratic violence and ignores Nigeria’s history of military rule, marked by repression and economic decline. While public frustration with governance is real, many argued that endorsing coups—especially with religious language—crosses a dangerous line that should never be encouraged.
