A recent comment reacting to the Bayelsa pastor controversy took stereotyping to another level. The comment read “When you see these pastors with big big chains for neck, just know say na one chance!”, implying that any pastor who wears flashy jewelry is automatically a fraud.
This kind of blanket judgment is unfair and intellectually lazy. Dressing a certain way does not define a person’s character, integrity, or calling. While some religious leaders have abused trust for personal gain, many genuine pastors also exist who simply express themselves through fashion like anyone else. Condemning all pastors with “big chains” ignores individuality and replaces critical thinking with prejudice. Accountability should be based on actions and evidence, not appearance. Reducing complex issues to shallow stereotypes only distracts from real conversations about integrity and responsibility.
