A woman’s post asserting that marriage does not erase bodily autonomy sparked intense debate online. While many agreed that consent remains essential, one comment pushed a harmful narrative: “The moment you get married your body belongs to your husband and your husband’s body belongs to you.”

This mindset is dangerous. Marriage is a partnership, not a transfer of ownership. Consent does not expire with a wedding ceremony, and no spouse has automatic rights over the other’s body. Framing marriage as mutual ownership subtly excuses marital rape and silences victims who are told they have no right to say no. Love, intimacy, and respect must always be voluntary. Any ideology that reduces human beings to property—married or not—must be firmly rejected.
