Reports about the alleged $2.5 million scam involving Nzube Hney Ikeji have continued to attract troubling reactions online. After some users glorified the fraud and even expressed interest in copying it, another comment mocked the Romanian woman involved, saying: “You said love seeking? Good for her.”
This response is deeply insensitive and cruel. It shifts blame from the alleged scammer to the victim, ridiculing her for seeking love. Wanting companionship is not a crime, nor does it justify being deceived or financially exploited. Mocking victims only emboldens scammers and discourages others from speaking up or seeking justice. Fraud is solely the responsibility of the perpetrator. Normalizing victim-blaming reflects a moral failure and further entrenches a culture where exploitation is excused and empathy is absent.
