A video showing a car engineer intentionally covering all the check lights on a lady’s car to cause further damage sparked outrage, with one user commenting, “A country of dishonest people.” This sweeping statement is not only unfair but dangerous. Stereotyping an entire nation for the actions of a few individuals promotes a negative and inaccurate image of Nigeria. While acts of dishonesty, like this engineer’s behavior, are frustrating and damaging, it’s wrong to generalize and tarnish the reputation of millions of hardworking and honest Nigerians based on isolated incidents.

Dishonest practices are not exclusive to Nigeria; they happen worldwide. Crooked engineers, fraudsters, and unethical professionals exist in every country, and such actions are not limited to any single nationality. Rather than adopting a cynical view, it’s important to recognize that integrity and fairness exist globally, including within Nigeria. Addressing specific problems without resorting to harmful stereotypes allows for constructive conversations and more effective solutions.
