One comment in support of the lady read, “But did they force him to give her though? Was a gun pointed to his head?” implying that it shouldn’t be considered a crime since the man gave willingly. This perspective, however, overlooks the element of deception involved.
While no physical force may have been used, deceiving someone into giving money or gifts by promising something as significant as marriage is still fraudulent. It exploits the victim’s emotions and trust, which makes it a crime. Such behavior undermines the importance of honesty in relationships and sets a dangerous precedent if left unchecked.
