The recent announcement of the Federal Government’s approval for the construction of an airstrip in Canaanland, the headquarters of Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), has stirred controversy. While many see it as a sign of growth and advancement, others have raised concerns about the source of funding. One comment, in particular, accuses Bishop David Oyedepo of using the offerings and tithes from poor church members to finance a “private airport.”
Such comments oversimplify the situation and unfairly malign the church’s leadership. Critics fail to consider the potential economic and infrastructural benefits of such a project, both for the church and the surrounding communities. Projects like these can attract investment and development, benefiting far more than just the church itself.
