A comment on Rivers State Governor Fubara’s leadership stated, “You don’t treat people bad at least you suppose to remember how Wike convinced his men to support you.” While acknowledging Wike’s role in Fubara’s rise, this view misunderstands leadership.

Gratitude doesn’t mean allowing political figures to maintain control. Governor Fubara was elected to serve the people, not to remain tied to the influence of his predecessor. If past leaders interfere, it leads to godfatherism, hindering transparency and progress.

Fubara’s responsibility is to govern independently, ensuring the best outcomes for Rivers State. Autonomy in leadership strengthens democracy and allows the governor to make decisions for the benefit of all, rather than for the interests of political benefactors.
