A post discussing how Northerners are now traveling abroad for greener pastures was met with the comment, “The moment Aboki begin japa that means Nigeria is irredeemable. There’s nothing left any longer.” While “Aboki” means friend in Hausa, this comment still carries a tone of unnecessary pessimism. People from all regions and walks of life have the right to seek better opportunities abroad, and their decision to do so shouldn’t be seen as a sign of the country’s downfall.

Migration for better prospects is a global phenomenon, and it doesn’t automatically mean that a country is beyond hope. Rather than focusing on negativity, it’s important to understand that individuals leave for personal growth, economic improvement, or family needs. Such choices don’t reflect the failure of a nation but the natural desire for better opportunities, which can still coexist with a country’s ongoing potential for growth and development.
