Social media is a powerful tool, but it can easily spread harmful narratives when used irresponsibly. In a recent post, @AjeboDanny made an insensitive statement, claiming, “The most stupid thing Muslims do are done by northerners.” While a commenter advised him not to generalize, he doubled down with another offensive remark: “It’s a lot of dumb people in the north.” Such language not only stereotypes a region but also fuels division and animosity among people from different backgrounds.

Generalizing the actions of a few individuals to an entire group or region creates unfair stigmas. The north, like every region, has a mix of individuals with diverse actions and beliefs. Using blanket statements disregards the complexities of a society and encourages bias. Conversations about social issues should focus on understanding rather than spreading harmful stereotypes that undermine unity and respect.
