A recent comment on X claimed, “Those guys cannot commit crimes without govt support, they are govt instruments,” referring to the notorious Nigerian cult group, Black Axe. This assertion suggests that the group’s criminal activities are allegedly backed or tolerated by the government, a disturbing idea that speaks to widespread mistrust of Nigerian authorities.
The Black Axe, known for its involvement in violent crimes and fraud, is feared across the country. The claim that they could be used as a tool by the government raises serious concerns about corruption and the erosion of public trust in law enforcement. If citizens believe that the state both enables and enforces crime, it undermines the very foundation of justice and security.
While the extent of any government involvement with the Black Axe remains speculative, the mere perception of such a connection is damaging. Whether true or not, the perception alone is enough to undermine public confidence in the state’s ability to maintain order and uphold justice.
