Reno Omokri recently countered a comment that claimed Lagos’ success is mainly due to the presence of the seaport and that relocating it would significantly affect the state’s status. Omokri maintained that Lagos’ development was largely the result of good leadership. This sparked several controversial reactions, including one troubling comment: “Dear Igbos, your region is nothing to write home about,” injecting tribalism into the discussion.
Such a comment detracts from the real debate and stirs unnecessary division. Instead of addressing the topic constructively, it resorts to tribal prejudice, which only worsens tensions between ethnic groups. Discussions on governance and development should focus on facts and policies, not tribal insults that damage unity and mutual respect in Nigeria.
