The emergence of a new terrorist group, Lukarawas, in northwest Nigeria, recently confirmed by Defence Headquarters, has sparked widespread concern and online debate. Among reactions, one comment claimed, “The only thing the north contributes…is negative. Nigeria has to be divided for everyone to progress.”
Such remarks highlight frustrations but also risk inflaming regional tensions. Blaming an entire region for the actions of isolated groups overlooks terrorism’s complexity and its impact across Nigeria. This view only deepens existing divisions and hinders national unity.
Rather than calling for separation, tackling terrorism requires collaboration across all regions. Unity and joint security efforts are essential in facing this threat effectively and ensuring collective progress.
