In response to a post about a Nigerian man wanted since 2017 for serious crimes in Rhode Island—including murder and inflicting bodily harm on a minor—one comment took a divisive approach by stating, “Yoruba men too dey embarrass us for abroad too bad.”
This type of tribalistic comment distracts from the real issue and unfairly paints an entire group with the actions of one individual. Blaming a specific tribe for the misdeeds of a single person not only fuels unnecessary division but also detracts from the importance of addressing the crime itself and seeking justice.
Rather than deflect with tribal stereotypes, we should focus on ensuring accountability and supporting efforts to bring perpetrators to justice. Crime is an individual action, and it should be treated as such.
