In the wake of the disturbing incident where an NYSC member was beaten by teachers, an insensitive comment stating, “Y u no go respect elders” wrongly places the blame on the victim, thus supporting violence and physical abuse. While respect for elders is an important value, it should never justify the use of force or abuse.
