In the wake of the incident where an NYSC member was beaten by teachers for “not greeting properly,” a comment criticized Nigeria as a whole, stating, “This country is so backwards when it comes to thought process.” While the frustration is understandable, such broad generalizations overlook the complexity of the situation. The actions of the teachers should be condemned, as they reflect poor judgment and a lack of respect for authority and professionalism. However, criticizing the entire country in this manner doesn’t encourage constructive dialogue.
