A recent discussion urging women to claim their rightful share of their father’s inheritance sparked a divisive comment: “You wan drag husband and father own? Your mama nkor, wetin come be her own?” This assumes that daughters and mothers cannot both have a stake in family inheritance—a flawed perspective.
Inheritance is not a zero-sum game. Recognizing the rights of daughters does not negate the rights of mothers or any other family member. Families can embrace equitable distribution that honors everyone’s contributions and relationships.
