In response to the tragic military Ghana crash in Ghana, one user commented: “This kind news no dey ever happen for Nigeria,” suggesting, whether jokingly or not, a desire for such a tragedy to occur in Nigeria instead.
This kind of remark is both insensitive and inappropriate. Wishing—or appearing to wish—disaster on one’s own country or others diminishes the real pain experienced by victims and their families. Tragedies should be moments of compassion, not platforms for dark comparisons or harmful commentary.
