The comment, “Na so Yorubas dey do, we know them,” stereotypes an entire ethnic group based on the actions of one individual. This is harmful because it promotes ethnic prejudice and fuels division among Nigerians. Criminal behavior is not tied to tribe, religion, or culture—people from all backgrounds can commit crimes. Generalizing that “Yorubas” behave a certain way unfairly labels millions of innocent people and fosters mistrust between communities. Such stereotypes also distract from addressing the actual issue—the individual’s crime—and instead turn it into an ethnic attack.
