The comment, “There is no law in Nigeria,” is an exaggerated expression of frustration with the justice system. While it reflects the perception that laws are not applied fairly or consistently, it is misleading because Nigeria does have laws—what is often lacking is proper enforcement and equality before the law.
Such absolute statements can breed hopelessness and discourage citizens from seeking legal remedies or pushing for reform. Instead of declaring the absence of law, discussions should focus on strengthening institutions, ensuring accountability, and demanding fair application of existing laws so that justice is both real and visible to all.
