The NDLEA’s arrest of a mother and son for dealing in cannabis sparked heavy debate. While many condemned their actions, one controversial comment suggested legalization: “Legalize this thing nd tax it… give dem license nd make individual no carry pass 7g… Cos e dey illegal nd people are making money off it, why not legalize it nd government can generate money from it.” Though some countries have regulated cannabis, Nigeria faces unique challenges. With high abuse rates, weak enforcement systems, and social consequences, legalization may worsen problems. Rather than rushing to copy others, Nigeria needs stronger drug education, rehabilitation systems, and stricter enforcement to protect its people.
