When news broke of 13 worshippers killed by bandits in a mosque in Kaduna, many Nigerians mourned. Sadly, among the reactions was a controversially insensitive comment: “This is a house fighting against itself.” Such a statement reduces a tragic massacre of innocent worshippers to a careless metaphor. Instead of showing empathy or demanding justice, it trivializes the lives lost, as though their deaths were a mere internal quarrel. This mindset is dangerous because it normalizes violence and downplays human suffering. In moments of tragedy, compassion, unity, and constructive solutions are far more needed than careless, dismissive remarks.
