A photo of Obafemi Awolowo walking with two women was captioned “Yoruba Steeze is eternal.” While many people admired the cultural pride in the image, one comment disrespected Yoruba traditional dressing by saying: “people wear rubbish dey waka werey say is eternal.” Such a statement is not only insulting to Yoruba culture but also dismissive of Nigeria’s rich heritage. Traditional attire represents history, identity, and pride. Reducing it to “rubbish” is both ignorant and divisive. Celebrating culture should unite, not become a space for mockery. Respect for traditions fosters dignity and appreciation across communities.
