A tribalistic post on X has drawn condemnation after a user made a degrading generalization about the Yoruba ethnic group. The post mocked food culture and hygiene, stating: “If you give a regular Yoruba man, Amala with Ewedu soup for neat place, him no go chop am there… Them talk say the soup dey get better taste near gutter.”
The comment was widely criticized for promoting ethnic stereotypes and reducing an entire group to crude caricatures. Many users described it as bigotry disguised as humor, noting that food preferences or cultural jokes should not cross into dehumanization.
Critics argued that such statements fuel division in an already polarized society, while supporters tried to pass it off as “banter.” For many observers, however, the post reflects how tribalism remains deeply entrenched online, often normalized through mockery rather than challenged with accountability.
