A man shared screenshots of a lady who borrowed N20,000 from him but later refused to pay back, claiming he shouldn’t even be asking for the money and that her “app wasn’t working.” Instead of condemning the entitlement, some users turned the matter into stereotypes and mockery. One comment read, “Na the new format especially Abuja boys, their network no dey ever work,” suggesting that people—particularly Abuja boys—use “network issues” as a scam tactic.
This kind of stereotyping is harmful. It shifts attention away from personal accountability and dumps the blame on an entire group. Not every Abuja resident is a scammer, and normalizing these labels only fuels distrust. Wrong is wrong—borrowed money should be returned, and excuses shouldn’t be turned into unfair generalizations.
