A woman shared a painful experience online—her husband had been confiding in his side chick, exposing and berating her in the process. After she found out, he showed no remorse, and she expressed her desire to leave the marriage, despite her mother’s advice to stay for the children.
Instead of addressing the real issue—betrayal and emotional abuse—a commenter diverted the conversation, stating, “African mothers and always advising rubbish,” unfairly generalizing an entire generation.
While frustration with outdated advice is valid, dismissing all African mothers forgets that many offer wisdom, strength, and support. Ironically, those who criticize may become the very mothers they mock.
