A video surfaced showing an elderly man allegedly placing a charm on someone’s land, sparking public outrage and disbelief that such practices still occur. As the clip circulated, reactions shifted from questioning the individual involved to making regional assumptions.

After one user blamed Imo State, another comment redirected the stereotype, saying, “Anambra people weh done o.” This was said without any confirmation of the man’s state of origin and effectively painted an entire population with the same brush.

Such remarks are irresponsible. They replace facts with prejudice and turn isolated incidents into tools for regional ridicule. Stereotyping millions of people based on one person’s alleged action only deepens division and fuels unnecessary hostility.

The focus should remain on the individual and the act in question, not on dragging entire states or ethnic groups into baseless accusations. Accountability should be specific, not collective.
