Following the report of NNPC Chief Paulinus Okoronkwo forfeiting his $2.5 million mansion after his money laundering conviction, a troubling comment surfaced: “Back home he’s applauded as a celebrity.” Sadly, this reflects a harsh truth — society often glorifies wealth without questioning its source. When convicted criminals are celebrated instead of condemned, corruption thrives unchecked. This mindset normalizes wrongdoing and discourages honesty. Until Nigerians begin to value integrity over ill-gotten wealth, corruption will remain a cycle. True success should be measured by character, not by riches earned through deceit and exploitation.
