A report that bandits struck again, kidnapping residents in a community in Kogi State, triggered fear and concern online. Disturbingly, one response read: “Good for one Nigeria.” This comment is deeply insensitive and dangerous. It celebrates the suffering of innocent people and treats violence as a political statement rather than a human tragedy. Regardless of one’s stance on national unity or governance, kidnapping and terror against civilians can never be justified. Such remarks normalize cruelty and dehumanize victims, turning real pain into a tool for mockery or ideological frustration. Insecurity is not a joke or a bargaining chip. When violence is applauded instead of condemned, society loses its moral grounding and becomes complicit in the harm it claims to oppose.
