A post on X took the earlier attack on the Church a step further by directing the hostility squarely at religious leaders. The user wrote: “Being a pastor is the only legal way to make money illegally.” In essence, the statement accuses pastors of operating elaborate scams under the cover of religion, implying that the pulpit has become a loophole for financial exploitation rather than spiritual leadership. This framing is controversial because it presents all pastors as fraudsters, erasing the difference between those who abuse their positions and those who genuinely serve their congregations with integrity. While there are valid criticisms about prosperity preaching and financial opacity in some churches, reducing an entire vocation to “legalised illegality” is a broad-brush attack that fuels distrust and deepens hostility between believers and critics of religion.
